Battle Layout, Noah vs Ian « Thread Started on Oct 30, 2006, 6:27pm »
Welcome to the first and hopefully only practice battle here on Element Clash! SecretofMana and I will clash our characters one on one in a solo battle, while describing how battles work; or more simply, the Battle Layout.
I would like everyone to realize that Noah is an NPC Character owned by me, and will never be used aside from tutorials and practice battles. ___
So we begin.
After finding an opponant, you immediately set up the battle thread. One of the most basic parts of the Battle Layout is the Title of the thread.
Usually, one thinks up a nifty plot summary and then puts , Blank vs Blank. For example, the title of this thread is Battle Layout, Noah vs Ian. Simple enough, eh?
Second of all, and one of the most important parts of starting up a battle, you must Post Your Character. Yes. Please post your Character Sheet from the Character Accounts section so that you and your opponant may use it fo quick access.
Name:Noah Kyris Age:14 Description:Standing 5'9'' off the ground, Noah has snow white hair and piercing red eyes. He wears a dark red shirt with a white Fire Nation symbol on it. Underneath that shirt is basic, long sleeved chain armor. He wears long, black and red shorts with white Kanji symbols for Fire on them. Noah is equipped with basic wooden sandals. Biography:From one of the most poor families of the Fire Nation, Noah set out to prove his worth and do good for his family. While bringing a cool additude into a fiery fighting style, he earned respect for his family in the Fire Nation. Nation:Fire Nation
Status
[P10] [n7] [N5] HP: 160 AP: 5 Shock Value: 10
Special Effect
Southern Shaolin:Whenever the Firebender does (or is supposed to do) 100+ damage in one Offencive Phase, the opponant recieves and addition loss of 1 Shock Value, regardless of how many of those attacks hit.
Gunfire Create a charge of fire in your hands and shoot it at the target with an extremely concentrated blast. [P2] [n0] [N0] Damage: 70 AP: 1 [ID] [UPT1] [FB] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][ ][x][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ]
Once this is done, you may put a small little Roleplay blurb to start off the dramatic showdown.
Noah walks onto the field. The wind blows fiercely and sways his hair back and forth. This battle would be his first against a Waterbender, but he was prepared. He has a disadvantage and an advantage. Without water, his opponant wouldn't be as deadly as assumed, but with what water he did have, he'd easily overpower Noah's fire.
Noah entered his battle stance.
Now, you wait for your opponant to do the same process... then the fun really begins!

This being said same process...
Name: Ian Lirian Age: 14 Description: A boy of 5"6 with light blue hair, wearing a very light gray-teal-ish shirt with sleeves streching down to his wrists. For pants, he options for baggy, navy-colored shorts that stretch down to his knees, and wears sandals on his feet. His eyes are colored a mix between purple and blue. He wears a red bracelet on his right arm's wrist, without any apparent reason. Biography: If he could get his way, he would just look at the ocean all day. Ian is a pretty normal person who isn't overally happy or sad or anything, and he's often found with a faint grin or a frown on his face. His tribe has no real special background or anything, so he has no real reason to be angry at the world, because it hasn't been angry at him. He enjoys looking at the ocean when he can, sometimes sidetracked by it, because of the diversity in each individual wave. Nation: Water Tribes
Status
[P7] [n7] [N7] HP:150 AP: 6 Shock Value: 10
Special Effect
-Water Satchel: Serves as a water source for 2 techniques per battle.
Skills
-Stream Healing Bring forth the essence of water through Chi and heal minor damage. [P0] [n2] [N7] Heal: 30 AP: 3 [-] [UPT1] [WB] Double Art - May be used during Offencive or Defencive Phases.
-Palm Strike A quick thrust of the palm at the target. [P2] [n1] [N1] Damage: 10 AP: 1 [D] [UPT1] [PA] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][x][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] Stagger1 - Target is forced back 1 tile. Combo - All moves with a UPT higher then 1 and following this technique get +20 damage.
-Sharp Thrust A quick, powerful and accurate thrust to the chest. [P4] [n1] [N0] Damage: 60 AP: 1 [D] [UPT1] [PA] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][x][x][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] Charge1 - You must charge one turn before using this technique.
Signature Skill
Current Rush Ian places water underneath his feet and uses it to suddenly lauch at his oppenent, kneeing them quickly twice in the gut rather lightly, and knocking them down. [P0] [n1] [N1] Damage: 10 (5+5) AP: 1 [ID] [UPT1] [WB] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][x][x][x] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] Knock Down - Target recieves Knock Down status, making all damage against them cause x2. Target may pay 2 AP to recover during any Phase. 50 Points Stun - Target skips their next Defencive and Offencive Phase. 110 Points Water Source - User must be at least 2 spaces from a Water [~] tile.
And...here comes the reply to the Roleplay blurb....
Ian quietly tilts sideways. "Hmm...It would appear that for whatever reasons, it has been chosen that we fight today..." He gives a small grin. "Well, good luck..."
Now then, usually, at this point, we would wait for either another mod or some other caring person to flip a coin to choose who goes first or not, but under the circumstances on which this is being posted, it would be biased. So, Noah goes first.

Alright. Fron here on, you may freely choose to do any sort of Roleplay interaction with the opponant. In my case, I choose not to. ___
So next we get to the nifty part. At the beginning of each turn you are obliged to post a mini Status Sheet uncluding your Name, Bending Type, Jing Bar, HP, AP and Shock Value.
And as you can see, my AP is also now recharged to normal, due to not overcharging.
Action: Ian initiates one charge.
You see, some moves require you to Charge one turn before using them. Simply explain in the Action: part that you are charging. Please keep in mind that charge costs 1 AP to initiate.
Now that I'm using a technique, I must post the description right below, as you can see...
Basic Bending Strike (Element Choice: Water) The most basic of bending arts unleashed upon your enemy. [P3] [n2] [N0] Damage: 40 AP: 2 [ID] [UPT2] [BA] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][x][x][x] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] Element Choice: The bending style this move takes on can be any of the bending styles you have learned.
As you can see, I used the effect to choose my only available bending style for application, Water. Now then, time to explain how attacking works.
First, after my attack. I post my new stats with modified Jing and AP.
Now then, just because it says 120 HP for Noah at the moment, doesn't mean it'll remain that way after next turn. Defensive Phase is where one can negate damage inflicted during the Offensive Phase. Next post, Panic shall explain Defensive Phase more thouroughly.

Now, it is my Defencive Phase, the phase in which I can choose to block or dodge skills to ultimately reduce or avoid damage. First, you must indicate that it is your Defence Phase, then say what you plan to do.
Defence Phase: Noah uses Diverge.
Once again, you copy the move's information.
Diverge Uses your own Bending skills to redirect a Bending attack. [P0] [n0] [N3] Damage Reduction: 50 AP: 2 [ID] [UPT2] [DA]
Now, indicate that your Defence Phase is finished.
End Defence Phase
Recopy your status with the appropriate changes if any.
Action: Noah moves 2 Left and uses Follow, Flaming Strikes, Elbow Jab and Gunfire.
Follow Prepare to follow your opponant. [P0] [n0] [N1] AP: 1 [UPT1] Follow: Follow your opponant, disabling any Dodge skills used my the opponant for the turn. Must be used before any Offencive Skills. Limit: May only be used 1 time per battle. _
Flaming Strikes Enhance your attacks with the fury of fire. [P2] [n2] [N0] Damage: - AP: 1 [-] [UPT1] [FB] Flaming Strikes - By igniting your feet and fists, you can deal an additional +10 Damage to any attacks following this move for the turn it is activated. _
Elbow Jab Pound your elbow into the target, winding them. [P2] [n1] [N0] Damage: 30(+10) AP: 2 [D] [UPT2] [PA] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][x][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] Stagger1 - Target is forced back 1 tile. _
Gunfire Create a charge of fire in your hands and shoot it at the target with an extremely concentrated blast. [P2] [n0] [N0] Damage: 70(+10) AP: 1 [ID] [UPT1] [FB] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][ ][x][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] ___
You see, now I have used Jing, so I must gain it back (5 Per turn) and I am in overcharge. I may not defend next Defencive Phase and I won't regain all my lost AP.

Now then, if this was not a tutorial battle, I could totally open up a can of some grand overcharge pwnage and win the battle, but there are still some topics remaining. For future reference, always conserve your AP wisely, and remember that Overcharge can do more harm than good sometimes...
Defensive Phase: Ian uses Block on Noah's Elbow Jab.
Block With help from your arms, legs, or any other part of the human anatomy, reduce some or all of the force felt from a physical strike. [P0] [n1] [N1] Damage Reduction: 30 AP: 1 [D] [UPT2] [DA]
As you can see, due to my defensive moves not being strong enough to reduce all of the damage, Ian still maintains some of it.
End Defensive Phase
If one wishes, they can post a roleplay bit inbetween any action, as well.
As the smoke clears from the Gunshot, Ian is found slightly burnt beneath a veil of transparant water. "G-Geez...", he mutters to himself as the sheild recedes.
Dagger Damage: +5 Durability: 3 [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][x][x][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] Throw - May be thrown the appropriate range for 1 AP
Equpping a weapon is as simple as that, at the cost of one AP. And just in case you're wondering, everyone comes with a dagger as default, so you don't need to purchase it or anything.
As you can see, I have now equipped a dagger, and may use it in coordination with the move Basic Weapon Strike or Throw, which inflicts 5 damage for 1 AP and -1 durability. And while Panic failed to mention this last round, if you find it too annoying to post a single move, then repost your stats, then perform another move, you can combine movement and actions into the same turn, as long as you put them in the order of usage.
Action: Ian uses Dagger's special ability Throw on Noah.[/b]
Dagger Damage: +5 Durability: 3 [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][x][x][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] Throw - May be thrown the appropriate range for 1 AP

Because I was overcharged the last turn, I was unable to defend on my defencive phase. Now it's my turn and I'm no longer overcharged. My stats would pan out like this:
Notice the change from overcharge status? I lost one AP because I went overcharged by 1 AP.
Action: Noah Converts [N4] into [P4].
What!? What is this strange move Panic has just done? Well, it's Jing Convertion. By sacrificing the amount of AP x the Jing converted, I can... well, move a amount of one type of Jing into a different type of Jing, following the same amount.
Please note that this may only be done at the end of a turn. ___
Notice the changes? My Negative Jing is now 0 and Positive has been changed to 8. ___
Now, I have 0 in one type of Jing (Negative). This means that I entered Jing Regeneration. So, my Negative Jing will recharge by 5 each turn until it is fully recharged.
Mk, time to move onto item usage. In any battle outside of this one, you'd have to of previously purchased an item in order to use it, and even then, you'd have to post your inventory somewhere on your character sheet at the beginning of the battle, including the item there. That way, it makes it easier for you and your opponent to prepare for future moves with the items in the same thread as the battle.
However, since I'm too lazy busy at the current moment to edit my character sheet (I'm such a great and hard-working mod : D *SHOT*), and don't have any cash in order to purchase an item, we shall just say Ian has a red potion with him this battle.
It would like to be known that when using an item, you post the Item, along with the "Use Item" default move.
Action: Ian uses Use Item on himself for Red Potion and preforms Punch x3.
Use Item Uses an item on yourself or on an adjacent square. AP: 2 [UPT1]
Red Potion A dark red potion with a defining fragrence. Restores 50 HP
As you can see, Ian has recovered 40 HP because of using the Red Potion, and lost 2 AP. He would regain 50 HP, but his health maxes out at 150.
The same process seen above applies for using any item, just replace the Red Potion stats with the stats of whatever item you're using(see Items Shop). Should it effect your opponent's status, re-post that too before the end of the action.

And... the final lesson is... how to utterly obliderate your opponent, even though they spared your life which just happened to be at stake when you went into Overcharge to aid in the reliability of the Practice Battle. And how to calculate rewards.
So. Here Noah is, in all of his glory, standing in front of Ian, ready to finish it. Brace yourselves, folks.
...And as you see, I've regained 5 Jing in each Type this turn, and it's put me at full Jing once more.
...AND as you see, I decided not to defend against his Punches, for that would put me in overcharge. The end.
_ Quick Jab (x3) Violently poke the opponant with a gathering of chi at a very extreme speed. [P1] [n1] [N0] Damage: 15 AP: 1 [D] [UPT3] [PA] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][x][x][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] Final Strike - When used for a third time during one Offencive Phase, this skill does an additional +10 Damage. _ Punch A basic punch in the gut. [P1] [n0] [N0] Damage: 15 AP: 1 [D] [UPT3] [PA] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][x][ ][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] _ Finishing Slap Finish off a series of attacks with a powerful slap to the jaw. [P3] [n1] [N1] Damage: 40 AP: 2 [D] [UPT1] [PA] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] [ ][X][x][x][ ] [ ][ ][ ][ ][ ] Finisher - When used at the end of a series of 3 or more attacks, this attack does +20 Damage. ___
And there you have it. I subtract the necessary amount of HP, and go into negative to show if he doesn't defend, he will ultimately lose. Ian cannot defend due to overcharge, so, I win. Here would be the place to look over your moves, to be absolutely positive that you have one. ~Win! Noah defeats Ian! Cash: 100. EXP 100!~
To calculate your rewards, go here. After writing that you won in some niftyness font, you then show how much Cash and EXP you have gained from the battle. But because this is a practice battle, Noah, the victor, doesn't win anything.
After this, feel free to begin a bit of roleplaying to end off your match. Just post a few time and then the battle will be locked by a moderator. ___
Noah looks over his beaten opponent. Obviously tired, Noah sits beside him. "You fought well, kid. It sure was intense!"
He grins.
"But it's a good thing this wasn't a real battle... or I would have killed you! Ha! : D"
